How Does The New Playstation 3 Compare?

Mark Robbins asked:

About the new Playstation 3 gaming system, many serious gamers are saying, “sign me up!” Featuring the new Blu-Ray technology and up to a 60gb hardrive, this is one game system that experts say could last for some time to come. Others are still on the fence.

The original Playstation system was introduced in the United States in 1995 and Playstation 2 followed in 2000. In early 2006, Sony announced the end of production for Playstation 2 as it began working toward the much ballyhooed introduction of the high-tech and next-generation Playstation 3.

So why should someone pony up nearly $600 for the new Playstation? There are several factors driving the success of this new gaming system.

* Featuring high-tech HD technology, the graphic capabilities of the new Playstation 3 are much improved over former models. The PS3 features IBM’s “Cell” processor and a processor that allows the machine to make two trillion calculations per second.

* PS3 games are encoded on the new high-tech Blu-Ray discs, which hold six times more data than traditional CDs. Sony executives predict this will lead to many new popular game franchises and the return of some old favorites. The use of the Blu-Ray technology combined with the powerful processor is promising game players more intricate games featuring incredible graphics.

* You don’t have to buy all new games. The PS3 will play Playstation and PS2 games as well. The system comes with a hard drive, a SD slot, a Compact Memory flash slot, and slots for Memory Stick Duo.

* Online capabilities. Like the Xbox 360, you can connect with other players online when playing PS3 games, as well as download content from the internet. This multi-player concept is sure to bring more players to the table as video games try to compete with that popular aspect of computer gaming.

* New, intuitive controller. Many gamers intuitively move their hands or whole bodies when playing games, even if such movements change nothing about how you’re playing the game. Sony has taken this and turned it into a special feature of the new controller. The controller features a super-precision, 6-axis sensing system that can accurately detect fine movements to control games. Future PS3 games, then, will be controlled by the movements of your hands, and not just your thumbs on the controller. That means, for example, you might be able to play a driving game while “steering” your hands with the controller.

* The option to spend a bit less on the system (and get less). The base model, which features only a 20gb hard drive, can be had for about $499. The larger, 60gb model, is $599 retail. This, of course, assumes you can find one. Initially the old “sorry, we can’t keep up with demand” manufacturer cry will be heard in order to increase demand.

Now, most gamers admit that this system will be superior to anything else available right now. It’s the newest, hottest game system out right now. But, there are a few cons that rub up against the pros. They include:

* This system is not a slim case like the PS2. It’s bigger and heavier, weighing in around 11 pounds.

* To get the superior HD output, you have to dig deeper in your pockets and pony up the $600, as the lesser-priced version doesn’t feature the highest quality graphics capabilities.

* Many argue that for the high prices of the PS3, you could simply buy a new computer or upgrade your current computer so it can run the high-quality games that feature the incredible graphics and playing features that have so many computer gamers leaving video game systems in the closet.

Video Games, Consoles & Accessories

Mike Smith asked:

The future of entertainment is video gaming. Today’s video game consoles take virtual reality to the next level, constantly pushing the envelope in graphical realism. Interactivity hasn’t been left behind either. Revolutionary changes to the game controllers and other videio game accessories add new aspects to the gaming experience. Complex, twisted plots and gamer-defined storylines, combined with hugely interactive environments, are adding the depth to video games that attracts gamers of all demographics. The latest game systems are about more than just video games; they combine social networking, hi-def home theatre entertainment and a slew of other distractions coupled with cutting edge technology.

At the heart of the video gaming industry is the developers’ constant struggle to push the boundaries of reality while working within graphic constraints on the consoles. With each system comes not only a new challenge, but also uniqueness determined by variation in game controllers. Nintendo Wii games differ from both PS3 games and Xbox 360 games, simply because of the Wiimote and its accelerometers. Computer games arguably have the most beefed up graphic requirements, since computer graphics are highly flexible allowing developers to create stunningly detailed and intense environments.

Gaming consoles have seen seven generations, and each one has been more exciting than the last. The current iteration has three heavy weights pitted against each other – Microsoft’s Xbox 360 console, the Sony PlayStation 3 and the Nintendo Wii. The advanced graphic processing unit or GPU that runs these machines churns out a state-of-the-art visual explosion that creates the incredible in-game detail. Long gone are the heavy, inconvenient console game systems of old. The shiny sleek new consoles pack a punch, with gaming, movies, music, photos and Internet all in tote. The killer app in all these systems would have to be their ability to connect gamers. The multiplayer aspect of today’s gaming spans continents, from the United States all the way to Japan.

Interactivity is one core aspect of video gaming. The game controllers  like their consoles have seen much evolution. Accelerometers, optical sensors and Bluetooth receivers are among the various features that have transformed the gaming experience. Gone is the wired clutter that came with older consoles like the GameCube controller; wireless controllers have taken over. Revolutionary technology is the cornerstone of the seventh generation controller. At the centre of this change is the new PS3 controller with the SIXAXIS highly sensitive motion technology. The 3d freedom within this controller was first seen in the Wimote, the Nintendo Wii controller, which used accelerometers to enhance gaming. Twirl, flick, flip and twist these controllers to unravel a whole new meaning to intuitive, interactive gameplay.

Another Playstation 3 Price Reduction

July 2nd, 2008

sayed islam asked:

There has been speculation that the Sony PlayStation 3 will be receiving another price reduction. Sources close to Sony are saying that a $ 100 price decrease might transpire. This would make the Sony PlayStation 3 $ 400.After dropping the price of the PlayStation 3 by $ 100 earlier this year, PS 3 sales increased by 125 %. Could a second price reduction put Sony over the top? Only time will tell, but skies the limit for Sony. The $ 400 PlayStation 3 will be a 40 GB and is expected be available during the holidays. This will give players options to purchase the 80 GB PlayStation 3 or 40 GB PlayStation 3. With exclusives like Killzone 2 and Metal Gear Solid 4, Sony looks to be in great position to steal the spotlight away from Microsoft and Nintendo.

This is the purported plan during the holidays for Sony:

80GB PlayStation 3: $500

40GB PlayStation 3: $400

PlayStation 2: $100

Some gamers are wondering why Sony is having two $ 100 price cuts that equaling $ 200 in a span of one year. Many say it is to compete with the Apple iPhone’s price drop, and Sony could feel like they are falling behind. Others believe that this is Sony’s way of selling more PlayStation 3’s to consumers. Sony has not corroborated nor denied a $ 400 PlayStation 3; however, there is a great chance that the PlayStation 3 will be $ 400 in 2007.

All About Playstation 3 Controllers

Paul Easton asked:

PlayStation 3 controllers are used to take the actions in this popular consoles games. Sony previously released the SIXAXIS as the official PlayStation 3 controller. It is a wireless controller that has many different options.

Recently, the SIXAXIS design was a breakthrough in controller design. Using sensors designed to read when a player angles, tilts, thrusts, or pulls, the SIXAXIS controller allows game play to become a natural extension of the player’s body.

It is currently being phased out of the market of gaming and will be replaced by yet another Dual Shock controller. The Dual Shock 3 has yet to be released in this 2008 summer season and will be formally introduced as the official PlayStation 3 controller.

PlayStation 3 Controllers: The features

Newer controllers for the PlayStation use Bluetooth technology but also have the option of being connected to a PC and can be charged with a mini USB cable. USB Charging

is done automatically the controller through the system at any time. (Using any one of the four USB connectors on the PlayStation 3.)

The batteries in the controllers have an estimated running time of around 30 hours. The batteries are the newer lithium ion type.

These PlayStation 3 controllers are similar in design to the Dual Shock controller design that as been used since the first PlayStation device came out.

This means that the controls have the standard 2 pads in the front of the controllers with two thumb sticks on top. The usual six buttons for movement and controlling the characters have been retained. The console can have up to seven controllers at a time.

The new controllers for the are very light. Some critics are quick to comment and criticize as having a cheap feel. The lack of weight can be important for those who will play on the PlayStation for many hours without a break.

These newer controllers will eventually feel comfortable as your arms and hands get used to using them.

Sony announced that because of the included motion sensors, the vibration feature of previous PlayStation controllers was removed, stating that the vibration would interfere with motion-sensing. The so called rumble feature reacts when your character in the game gets hit or when there is a lot of movement in the game.

These PlayStation 3 controllers allow the players a uniquely large range of movements and options. Combination’s of different moves are sure to happen, as many new gamers using the PlayStation are sure to be comfortable using the new design of the controllers.

The Playstation 3 controller is constantly evolving to change with the new and more elaborate games available. Hopefully it will move into the more virtual game where the controls with react faster, in real time, and appear as part of you body. Maybe a glove or movements change with your body movement, like the Nintendo Wii
