Playing Table Tennis Table Outdoors

Mario Churchill asked:

Table tennis is normally played indoors. This is to create a controlled environment that is favorable for both players. But during the summer, those who still want to play the game can do this outside.

Those who don’t have a table should probably get the model that can be used both for indoors and outdoors. Such models are usually water and rust proof so that it won’t be damaged when it gets wet.

These usually come with wheels and are collapsible in the center making it easy to assemble and disassemble after a few games. People who play the game often can even get a small tarp so protect it from dust while it is in storage.

The most important thing to check when looking for a table is how well does a ball bounce on the surface. Studies show there is a big difference perhaps because of the coating and those only those who are serious about the game will notice the difference.

Tables made of metal makes the balls bounce a little slower than those made of wood. The same thing can be noticed among the different brands being sold in the market, which is why only one that is up to standard is used in major competitions.

If the weather is hot inside the house, perhaps it is time to move the table outdoors. A good game can be played on concrete and not on grass because of the uneven surface.

Does the game always have to be played using a standardized table? The answer is no. After all, people are only doing it to have fun so it is not always necessary to use the 9 x 5 foot model.

The person should just make sure that the net is placed in the middle of the court. The same rules apply regardless of the length of the table. The player will just have to get used to playing on a longer or a shorter playing area than the original one.

Before playing the game, both sides should get if the lock for the net has been securely fastened. A similar one should also be secured on the ground so that it will not move when exchanging volleys with one another.

A rust and waterproof table tennis table can be purchased at the sporting goods store or online. A basic model is a little over $100 but those who want the whole nine yards will have to shell out more than $700.

The tables are easy to assemble. Someone from the store can deliver this to the home and assemble it or this can be done by the new owner.

The best way to make sure it is in good condition all the time is to wipe it using a cloth before and after playing. The hinges and the wheels should be oiled from time to time making it easy to set up. Lastly, this should be stored in a cool and dry place to prevent it from bumps and scratches.

Table tennis is an interesting sport. The person should just buy the balls, the paddles and the net separately or save a few dollars since some models are sold in sets. The biggest investment will be the table but when everything is ready, it is time to have some fun.

Video Games: The Modern Day Addiction

December 9th, 2008

Tom Kranz asked:

Modern-day psychological problems are related to compulsive playing of computer and video games. That is a fact! Modern societies are now struggling to meet the new face of addiction. Virtual games such as computer and video games seem to be perfectly harmless. They even managed to convince parents that they provide their kids with safer and more enriching ways of spending free time. For this reason, the underlying effects of playing these games have sneakily gotten worse. Since they provide fun, excitement and thrill, the common factors that are related to promote addiction, kids are most vulnerable to be affected with compulsive gaming disorder. Since this form of disorder is less likely to be recognized and are more often not considered serious, they tend to develop into video game addiction or computer game addiction. The ignorance in handling and controlling the new trend of addiction in modern societies only made things worse, for affected virtual game players.

Virtual and simulated video and computer games are originally meant to be a past time or a therapeutic way of passing free time from work or school. However, developing a sense of dependency to this activity is one of the modern societies lurking problems. While these games are supposed to be harmless, many are still compelled to abuse the good feeling that playing this games bring, as in deep sense of satisfaction and sense of power by living out a virtual role that is entirely different from his own real-life roles. A person who is socially withdrawn can live out an aggressive personality through the realms of these games. In a way, playing the game compensates or whatever a person may be lacking, social wise. This can be helpful, but once it starts replacing the role of friends, work and family to a person’s life, there must be a form of intervention to convince the person to succumb to psychological evaluations and treatments to prevent the onset of video game addiction or computer game addiction.

Gaming addiction has become a modern-day phenomena, its exact cause is yet to be determined. Similarly, there are still issues regarding the grounds on which the conditions can be diagnosed. What doctors do is make separate diagnosis, as to finding and devising treatment to the behavioral patterns that relates to video game addiction or computer game addiction.

The seriousness of the issues caused by computer game addiction and video game addiction was even claimed to have created a new face of addiction in modern-day societies. Since this kind of addiction roots from seemingly harmless sources, what leads to addiction is the people’s abuse to the effects or benefits that they bring. Since no one will ever prevent using computer these days, at work or in school, theorists predict that this kind of disorder will be much harder to manage. After all, no one has been jailed for spending too much time playing computer games and no one has been condemned in exhausting himself to death, reaching the highest levels of online games. None yet!

The History of the Nintendo Wii

March 12th, 2008

Lorna Goldsborough asked:

n for the Nintendo Wii was in the works as early as 2000. However, the public didn’t get a taste of the concept until mid 2004. The goal of Nintendo with this product was to revolutionize the home gaming console industry. Many consumers were very excited about the ideas but some worried that they wouldn’t be able to materialize.

Those doubts were soon cast aside though when Nintendo revealed their concept for the wireless controller at a show in Japan in 2005. In late 2006 The Nintendo Wii was in high demand. In fact, stores couldn’t get enough of them to fill the demands for the holidays. Many people were paying thousands of dollars for them on eBay and other online auction sites. There were also plenty of charity fundraisers selling high volumes of tickets due to the prize being a Nintendo Wii.

The road to such success was one that took many twists and turns though. In 2001 Nintendo released the GameCube. It was quite successful but the researchers for the company felt that so much more could be accomplished due to the technology we have available. As the same time the Nintendo DS was being finalized. Many of the concepts of these two early works though are a crucial part of the overall design of the Nintendo Wii.

It took the visions of both developers, programmers, and engineers to get the Nintendo Wii that we love today to take shape. They had a variety of concepts they needed to implement. First, they needed to make it affordable or people weren’t going to buy it no matter how good it was. Nintendo make it known from the start they wanted the Wii to be family oriented. Therefore it had to be offered at a price that the average family could afford to buy it.

Next they wanted to go beyond the basics of playing video games. They wanted to give players a chance to be a part of the game. This was different from simply enjoying playing the game. Being able to use the right tools and accessories would make a huge difference in this area. A great deal of effort was put into offering very realistic movements and graphics to allow this to happen.

Last but not least they wanted the games to be fun and interactive. They wanted parents to be willing to buy this type of gaming console without worrying that their kids would become inactive in other aspects by playing it all the time. They wanted to make sure people of all ages were going to be able to have a great time using it as well.

The name of the Wii was changed many times before it was released. One of the top names that was considered was Revolution. However, the executives of the Wii had a worldwide vision for this home gaming console. Therefore, they wanted a name that would be simple to pronounce in any given language.

Since the goal of the company was to offer something that everyone could enjoy, using the word WE in it was something that many people loved. The spelling of it was changed though to give it a more distinct element that would be connected to the Nintendo brand in the minds of consumers from all over the world. This is a marketing strategy that certainly was worked out well for Nintendo.

No one can question the success of the Nintendo Wii though. It has won many different awards in the few years it has been on the market. Since September of 2007 it has been the top selling home gaming console. Even though other companies are trying to copy the standards that Nintendo has set they haven’t been able to generate the same consumer following.

The Nintendo Wii was just released in both China and South Korea in 2008. There are plans to launch it in Morocco and the Philippines later this year or in early 2009. This is due to customer demands from those regions. Many people there already have them but they have been paying a premium price for them on the black market.
