Pre-ordering Your Video Games - a Necessity Today!

April 25th, 2009
video games
Kenneth L. White asked:

When it comes to pre-ordering nowadays you have no choice. In most cases if you don’t pre-order your favorite video game, you will not have it on its release date. Don’t go through the same thing that I went through, going from game store to game store, trying to find my favorite game because I didn’t pre-order!

The whole process of pre-ordering is something that the entire video game industry utilizes. From the game developers to the console makers to the video game stores to the department stores. The video game industry is a billion dollar industry that is getting bigger and bigger everyday. The whole process starts with the Electronic Entertainment Expo or E3. They hold this convention every year and from there the game developers get an idea how much anticipation they can expect from an upcoming title. From there it goes to the numerous video games magazines that promote that particular game. That game and many others are promoted in these magazines, these same magazines are read by the millions of video game junkies in the U.S. and the world and that in turn draws up more anticipation for the game.

The console makers vie for distribution of the game. If the game has garnered enough attention then these console makers try to get sole distribution of this game for their particular console. This is sometimes hit or miss. Take for example the hugely popular video game “Grand Theft Auto”. This game was available only on Playstation and they benefited from it immensely. But now the Xbox 360 has jumped into the ring and Microsofts’ baby has become more and more influential in the industry. Because of this, Rockstar, the makers of Grand Theft Auto have allowed the Xbox 360 into the grand hall of Grand Theft Auto. That means more money for Rockstar, more money for Playstation, more money for Xbox 360. All this from pre-ordering.

The attention and anticipation that the game gets directly relates to the pre-order status of the game. What I mean is whether or not the game will be available on game day. The video game stores order a predetermined amount for the stores stock. Sometimes they have a game or two left in stock. Sometimes they don’t. You won’t have to worry about this if you pre-order. When you pre-order, they make sure that your copy of the game is at the store before they sell off the extra copies. This is the beautiful thing about the whole pre-order process. This is something that starts months in advance.

Normally you pre-order with a small amount, usually about 5 dollars. This saves your copy of the game. Once the release date eventually comes then all you have too do is go to the store and pick up your copy that you pre-ordered. Hopefully you paid the entire thing off, that way you won,t have to worry about paying the balance of that game on game day. (There is nothing better than walking up to the counter, showing your receipt, and walking away with your copy of a game that you have been waiting for from anywhere from six months to a year.) Now if you don’t pre-order then you have to hope that the store has an extra copy of the game for you. If they don’t then you have to go from store to store hoping, wishing and praying that the next store has a extra copy of the game! Don’t go through this, just pre-order the game! It’s only five dollars!

The Evolution of the Sony Playstation Entertainment System

April 14th, 2009
playstation
Donald Carroll asked:

The Fifth Generation Gaming Console called the Sony PlayStation first came out in Japan on December 3, 1994, and was first available in the United States on September 1, 1995. The Sony PlayStation is a thirty-two bit gaming system, unlike Sony’s more recent offspring! The top selling game, at that time, was “Gran Turismo”.

By March of 2005, the Sony PlayStation had already shipped a total of over one hundred million units, becoming the first in-home computer gaming system to ever reach the one hundred million unit mark (as far as sales go.) If you are looking for game cheats for the Sony PlayStation, PlayStation Two, or Sony PlayStation Three, PLEASE READ FURTHER!!!

The Sony PlayStation Two is Sony’s second video game console, the successor to the original Sony PlayStation, and the predecessor to the Sony PlayStation Three. Its development was announced in March of 1999, and was released in Japan on March 4, 2000, and later in the United States on Oct 26, 2000. The system storage, as in the case of the original Sony PlayStation, was by means of the memory card; the controller input, however, with the Sony PlayStation Two, is the “DualShock Two”.

There was just over thirty-seven million units sold in the United States, and there was over one hundred seventeen million units shipped worldwide. The top selling game on this particular game console was “Grand Theft Auto: Vice City”. The Sony PlayStation Two also has a “backwards compatibility” feature so that you can play the Sony PlayStation One games with the Sony PlayStation Two.

“The Next Generation” of the Sony PlayStations, the Sony PlayStation Three, is the third home video game console produced by the Sony Computer Corporation. At the time this article was written the successor to the Sony PlayStation Two, the Sony PlayStation Three, was in third place in a worldwide competition with the two other so-called “Next Generation” gaming consoles, the “Wii”, and the Microsoft XBox 360.

The Sony PlayStation Three was first released on November 11, 2006, in Japan, and shortly thereafter on November 17, 2006, in the United States. Its primary storage media is the “Blue-Ray Disc”, and it runs “SACD’s”, DVD’s, and CD’s. It also puts out high-definition video for video games, and movies, supporting up to 1080p HD resolution.

It is available in two configurations, the 20 GB Basic Model, and the 60 GB Premium Model, but Sony discontinued the latter model in North America on April 11, 2007, due to a lack of consumer demand.

What Can You Get Out Of The Latest Version Of Nintendo Wii

April 2nd, 2009
nintendo wii
James Yee asked:

With a price tag of $250 or less, Nintendo’s Wii is reputed to be cheaper than most seventh generation game consoles. It also aims for a wider market demographic than its competitors. Hence, it is equipped with the capacity to be compatible with other platforms including the Internet.

Coming at only a few millimeters in height and width, the Wii is the smallest game console to ever rollout from Nintendo. And at only 2.7 pounds, it is the lightest among the present game consoles on the market. What’s more, the Wii can be placed in a horizontal or a vertical orientation; so there is no reason for you not to find a perfect space and position to keep it.

While the best features it may have to offer are its ability to receive messages and updates online via WiiConnect24 and its low electrical consumption, the following are some more of the unique features that Wii has to offer.

One-Handed Controller

A striking feature about Nintendo’s Wii is the remote controller that can be used with only one hand. The controller makes use of infrared sensors and accelerometers that are super sensitive to the user’s movements and can detect the way it is positioned in a three dimensional platform. With this controller, a gamer can play using his or her movements rather than mere button-pressing.

The controller also features force feedback technology wherein players can feel vibrations to better simulate the game being played in a real world scenario. Best of all, Wii controller has an internal speaker that enhances the feel of the game being played. Wii also comes with a nunchuk unit for that more traditional touch of an analog stick and trigger buttons.

Equipped with Bluetooth, the Wii controller is connected to the console without the limitations posed by cords. And it can also be connected to other devices thru a port located under the controller.

Retro-Compatibility

Wii offers retro or backward compatibility with Nintendo GameCube software and some hardware. This means you can enjoy GameCube games on your Wii. The console comes with four GameCube controller panels as the Wii remote controller can’t be used for GameCube games. It also has a slot for GameCube memory cards if you want to save games.

Parental Restrictions

The Wii console comes equipped with parental control capability. Parents can prohibit very young kids from playing games with unsuitable contents. Wii automatically checks the content rating of games being played. If a game doesn’t meet the restrictions set, Wii won’t load the game unless an override password is keyed in.

Buy a Nintendo Wii

It was called “Nintendo Revolution”. Nintendo Wii is the Nintendo Version that plays NTSC and encodes any disc format. With its cool look, the latest Japanese console is made of top-notch materials and comes with a compact, witty design.

Nintendo has taken on the approach of improving its entire system and not just taking from what their competition released. The Nintendo Wii controller that is special-motion sensitive.

The difference is that you can punch, drive or strike a sword by turning your wrist instead of pushing the button.

Its size is three DVD cases piled atop another. It is available in a silver stand, enabling the system to be displayed horizontally or vertically.

If you have been a Nintendo fan over the years, this console can play games compatible with the Nintendo GameCube. It can also download fan-favorite titles from the past 20 years for Nintendo 64 and Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES).

The Wii costs at around $250. This rate is cheaper than the Microsoft Xbox 360 and way cheaper than Sony PlayStation 3. The packaging of the Nintendo Wii includes a sports game that is quite addictive. That alone will let you feel first-hand what the system’s controller is all about.

In recent news, Nintendo Wii has outsold Sony’s PlayStation 3. Both components were released toward the end of the year (the former was available mid-November while the latter in mid-December).

There was a speculation that PlayStation 3 will be the best-selling game console all over the world. Unfortunately, that didn’t happen.

Nintendo has managed to ship 4 million Wii’s worldwide on December 31. That is twice the number of PlayStation 3’s promised to deliver. As 2006 closed down, Nintendo had already sold 600,000 Wii eight days after it debuted on November 19.

It could be the price. Nintendo Wii can be purchased at $250 whereas a Sony PlayStation 3 costs $600.

If all these have sparked your interest, you can buy Nintendo Wii in your local stores. You can also buy them online :www.amazon.com and www.bestbuy.com. You can compare prices from one store to another. Some sell them cheaper than the standard price.

By buying it on eBay, you also get a discount. That depends though whether you’re willing to go for a second-hand console.

However anyway you decide to get it, seems like Nintendo has managed to do well with this system.

Modern Indoor Games for Home Alone Kids

March 24th, 2009

Karan asked:

One of the realities of today’s society is the pressure for children to stay home alone for a short time after school until a parent returns from their work. Every day thousands of children arrive home from school to an empty house. It’s estimated that over 60% of children are left home alone. It can be very challenging and anxiety filled situation for parents and kids. Even one afternoon at a dance class, sports practice or being at another kid’s house is not much helpful. Often this poses a challenge for the working parents to keep their children inside the home and busy. They want their kids to engage in indoor activities rather than going outside and playing. Indoor games are an easy way to keep children secure in the four walls of house. Some of commonly indoor games played are chess, carom, table tennis, video games, cards, riddles and marbles etc. which are less popular today and these games involves two or more kids.

What if the child is single and needs to play alone. There are number of online games available for the little kids to spend their lonely hours. Some of the most popular online games are like online puzzles. Adventures games, fun games, sports games, music games, racing games, mind games, action games. Some of the games available free online are jungle battle, snake dash, school dress up, jamps, turtle pools etc. If your children are inclined more towards creative indoor activities then you can help them with simple projects for puppet making, homemade toys, and instruments. There are also an endless number of craft projects to fill an afternoon, from the reasonably tidy; play dough, stencilling and the like, all the way up to pretty messy stuff like papier mache. If you can help and guide your kids with messier projects and set them up properly, then the ‘mess factor’ (and stress factor!) can be minimized and they can still have a great time. Otherwise there are some Modern Indoor Games for lonely kids that help to keep your kids safe and happy at home so that parents can take a breath of relief like:-

Got a Clue?

Mixed up mysteries with hilarious results will provide giggle time for 2 or more players. Compile a few short mysteries (look to kids’ books for inspiration). Copy or type each story, leaving blanks for key words, such as a noun, a verb or an exclamation. Above each space write the type of word to be filled in. The players then take turns providing verbal entries to fill in the blanks and then read them aloud.

Ready…Switch

A modified “Rock, Paper, Scissors” wow powerleveling game but with more movement. In this game each player makes one of three gestures such as touching their nose, arms pointed up like a “Y” and arms crossed over the chest. Player one begins by calling “Ready…Switch!,” at which point both players quickly make a gesture. If the gestures match, player one gets a point and starts the game again. If there is no match, player two begins. The first playerto get three points wins.

And the Wind Blew

Put your hot air to good use with this home made challenge game for 2 or more players. Two play this game you need 2 or more players, Table, Ping Pong ball. Players stand at opposite ends of the table. Place the ball in the center of the table. Begin by blowing the ball to keep it from falling off the table. Older kids can make simple adaptations for air hockey, using masking tape for the center line and goal boxes.

Xbox 360 Three Flashing Lights

March 16th, 2009

Abhinav Sidana asked:

Have you recently noticed Xbox 360 three flashing lights with you favorite gaming console? If your answer is yes, don’t worry you are not alone, hundreds and thousands of people have similar problems with their Xbox 360 gaming console, and here I will discuss some easy and quick methods so that you can quickly fix Xbox 360 three flashing lights problems your own and that too within one and half hour.

The major disadvantage of compact electronic devices such as Xbox 360 is that here Microsoft have not provided adequate cooling sink so that the heat generated in the system is taken out naturally. The heat generated in the Xbox 360 is sometime so high that it reaches up to100 degree centigrade and in such high temperature; the wiring rods especially the solder wire gets disconnected and you see three flashing lights in your Xbox 360 monitor.

These Xbox 360 three flashing lights are therefore caused by overheating of the console and one best remedy to avoid such damages in future is to place your Xbox 360 in an open place and if required allow cooling with the use a pedestal fan from outside of the console.

Now the present task is to fix these problems and if your system in under warranty period you can send your console to Microsoft for fixing Xbox 360 three flashing lights problem, however it is not advisable for two reasons. One reason is that it is costly; you will have to spend around $150 for fixing Xbox 360 three flashing lights error especially if the warranty is over and the second reason is that it is time consuming. You will have to wait for almost a month to get your problem rectified and therefore the best options for fixing the three flashing lights problems with your console is to do the job yourself with the help of a readily available DIY guide at Internet.

So, if you can understand simple instructions the later option is best choice for you to do the job and you can fix the Xbox 360 three flashing lights problem within one and half hour.

Arcade Games Have Come a Long Way

March 16th, 2009
arcade games
Russell Hancock asked:

Arcades have come a long way since their inception as simple coin operated games long ago.

The earliest coin operated games showed up in the 1930’s as pinball machines. In the early 70’s the world was mesmerized by the video game called pong. Then Atari came into the picture as the first major player in the industry.

New arcade games were developed and seemingly overnight they appeared in restaurants, grocery stores, bars and movie theaters all over the United States and other countries. Games such as Space Invaders, Galaxian, Pac-Man, and Donkey Kong were especially popular.

The simplest arcade games are still fun to play but the most advanced games challenge you more, and generally provide a more gratifying user experience. Arcade games are products of someone’s imagination. Someone who took a simple idea created an interactive product that appeals to the masses of gamers out there. Some games become extremely popular, others do not.

At one time the only place you could play an arcade game was at a public establishment such as movie theaters and bowling alleys. They started out being the size of small refrigerators. Then we had home gaming systems which over the years were developed and got smaller, and much more powerful with better graphics. There are home gaming systems, handheld games, games on cell phones and about any other electronic media with a screen.

What fascinates me about the games is the endless variety. There are free games available all over the internet and they are all fun to play. If you find yourself sitting in front of a computer waiting on a download you can play a free arcade game.

You won’t have any trouble finding an arcade site, there are literally thousands of them on the internet today.

A lot of the game sites allow you to keep score and challenge others to beat your score at a particular game. Some have a link you can embed into your social networking page which will allow other users to play the game. Most of these web arcade sites have upwards of 3000 games or more.

Arcades are indeed a lot of fun. They have come a long way from years ago and I expect that the popularity of arcade games will not diminish anytime soon. They are sure to be developed further as time goes on with more advances in the next few years than we have seen in the last 20 years.

Anyone young and old can play arcade games. It is great exercise for the brain and is fun and challenging at the same time.

Check out some of the great arcade sites out there and play away.
